The Weather in Berlin

Coming to The Circus by Car

Since January 2008 there have been certain rules in place regarding private cars in the centre of Berlin. On this page you can find different information about the rules, as well as advice for those of you coming to the Circus by car.

We do have an underground car park at The Circus Apartments, which you can reserve in advance for €15 per day.

The Emission Certificate

Every car that enters the “Environmental Zone” in the centre of Berlin needs an emission certificate. The Berlin city government instigated this policy to lower emissions and traffic in the inner city, and is encouraging visitors to leave their car on the perimeter of the city and use public transport for the last leg of their journey.

The “Environmental Zone” is the area within the suburban rail ring, which includes Mitte – the district of the city where the Circus is located. So if you are planning to bring your car into the city, you will need to make sure you have an emission certificate:

If your car has a German license plate – you can get the emissions certificate sticker from the Berlin city government, from some gas stations and from car dealers with garage for about 5,- Euros. You can also order the sticker online for a bit more at services like www.umwelt-plakette.de

If your car does not have a German license plate – it’s also possible to get the sticker but it might be a bit more complicated. The dealers and gas stations might not be so familiar with foreign registrations and you might have to go to the Berlin city government.

If you live in another city in the European Union which has a similar Environmental zone, your certificate might also be good for Berlin.

Where to park your car

Inside the “Ring”

If your car has the emission certificate, and you decide to bring it into the city, we do have a limited number of parking permits for on-street parking in the area around the Circus. It is extremely important that you reserve this with us in advance, otherwise we cannot guarantee their availability.

The following parking garages are reasonably close to the Circus, and offer 24 hour access:

Rathauspassage – directly on Alexanderplatz, next to the “Rotes Rathaus” (City Hall)
Price: 15 Euros per day, Location: Rathausstrasse 5, Google Maps.
To/from the Circus: U-Bahn Line 8 from Alexanderplatz to Rosenthaler Platz (two stops)

QPark – also at Alexanderplatz
Price: 24 Euros per day, Location: Google Maps.
To/from the Circus: U-Bahn Line 8 from Alexanderplatz to Rosenthaler Platz (two stops)

Mecure Hotel Car Park – close to the Natural History Museum
Price: 9 Euros per day, location: Invalidenstrasse, corner Chauseestrasse, Google Maps.
To/from the Circus: Tram M8 from Naturkundemuseum to Rosenthaler Platz (four stops)

Outside the “Ring”

If you do not have an emission certificate, or you simply prefer to leave your car outside of the city centre and travel into Berlin by public transport, we have found the following options:

Park & Ride – There are a number of Park & Ride options outside the environmental zone, which are located at S- and U-Bahn stations and are free. It should be noted that these are open car parks with minimal security. You can find a complete list, with transportation links to the city, on the VBB website here.

The following car parks have security, and are also outside the environmental zone:

Car Park Südkreuz – located on the A100 motorway
Price: 15 Euros per day, Location: Google Maps
To/from the Circus: S-Bahn ring to Hermannstrasse, and then U-Bahn Line 8 to Rosenthaler Platz

Schillerparkcenter – located in Wedding, and good for those coming in from the north (A111)

Treptower Park Center – located in the south east, for those entering the city on the A113
