WELCOME TO MULTITUDE

For many refugees and asylum seekers, arrival in Germany can be a difficult and overwhelming situation. Often they are housed in temporary accommodation on the outskirts of the city, face restrictions on their freedom of movement, are unable to work and study, and need to get by on an income of around €40 a month. This continues until their application has been processed, which can take months of even years.

Multitude is a Berlin-based NGO that was founded in March 2011 in order to provide support and advice for refugees as they make their journey towards a participatory life in German society. Multitude is a completely independent organisation, that relies on the work of around 100 active volunteers. The volunteers offer refugees German lessons – the most important tool when it comes to active participation in society – as well as other activities such as picnics, a kid’s club, sports and movie nights, and help with transport and other practical matters. Everything that Multitude does is designed to help and support refugees during what can be an extremely stressful and overwhelming process.

The volunteers give their time for free, and all money raised by different efforts goes directly towards funding the activities that are each part of achieving the goal that Multitude have set themselves:

“We stand up to overcome those obstacles which divide Germans from migrants and migrants from asylum seekers. We aspire a society which is free of the words “us” and “them”, we aspire a “Multitude” of equal, cooperative social interaction to live together peacefully.”

Here at The Circus we are extremely proud to be helping Multitude in their activities, whether it is through the work and time of our staff, the hosting of fundraising events, and the generous donations of our guests. We are convinced not only in the importance of the work the people at Multitude are doing, but also in their commitment to a project that can make such a difference to people living here in Berlin who are facing challenges and difficulties that it is hard for many of us to imagine.

Please help us in any way you can.

Thank you, on behalf of Multitude and the Circus team.
