Design at The Circus Hotel

Bird Desk

We recently updated the Circus Hotel website to add some pictures and information about design at The Circus Hotel.

Friends of the Circus will know that the overall look of both the Circus Hostel and Hotel have been shaped by the work of Sandra Ernst, an extremely talented designer who has been putting her unique and creative stamp on the Circus for years.

The Circus Hotel was Sandra’s biggest project to date, and she oversaw all elements of the interior design, from the individual design for each room to the corridors, reception, bathrooms and the Restaurant Fabisch. Sandra also selected fellow artists and designers to add their own touch to the building, such as Eliza Strolzyk, Nina Stähli, and Haleh Redjaian.

Everyone who comes to stay with us in Berlin gets to experience Sandra’s work first hand, and her talents have not only been recognised by countless guests, but also media such as the New York Times and the USA Today. In November, the Circus Hotel was selected by Budget Travel Magazine as one of the “Best Boutique Hotels” in the world.

You can see some more pics and read about the design and the designers on the Design at The Circus Hotel page of the hotel website.

Project in Nepal – Update

Kinder NepalAs you might know, The Circus has recently begun to raise money for a organisation called Kinderhilfe Nepal Mittelfels in the south of Germany that funds a number of children’s and other humanitarian projects in Nepal. On the project pages of the company website you can get more background information as well as photographs from our first fundraising events at the Mauerpark fleamarket in Prenzlauer Berg.

We just transferred to Kinderhilfe Nepal Mittelfels the result of our first few months of fundraising, and thanks must go to everyone who has supported us and helped us raise €1200. This money has been used in Nepal for the financing of the first Health Camp that took place in the West of the country. You can find more information about the Camp on our Nepal project page.

Thanks again to everyone who has helped and been involved in raising money for the project, and please keep an eye out here and on the project pages for the next fundraising events which will be taking place in the new year.

The Circus Football Team

Here’s a video Lars put together that gives you a glimpse of some of the Circus team in a place other than behind a bar or a reception desk. In 2009 a crack team of athletes was found amongst the members of the Circus crew and sent out west from Rosenthaler Platz to Spandau. We had been invited by 1st Service to take part in the X-Mas Cup, an indoor football tournament for different companies in Berlin, and apart from the sporting aspect, the cup was hosted to raise money for different children’s organisations in the city. As you can see from the video, the team certainly did the orange shirts proud.

Welcome to the Circus Blog

A Blog..Hooray…slowly but surely The Circus arrives in the 21st century….we are very happy to start this adventure, since for long we thought that there should be a way to stay in touch with the growing number of people that are connected to us one way or the other, staff that has moved on, often to other parts of the world, guests that became friends, family that still can´t believe we earn our money in an honorable way..

We will keep you informed about the small and the bigger developments here at our home base, private stuff (means: new babies, mainly..) and bike races we have won, weird things that happened to us, add-ons to our houses, and of course all the best things that are going on in Berlin.  Contact us, if you have remarks, we love to hear from you.

So, welcome to the wonderful and colorful world of The Circus Hostel and Hotel, the people behind, and those, who make it all possible, our guests…
