ABOUT THE TEMPORÄRE KUNSTBOX

Blog KunstBoxThe Temporary Artbox is eight square metres  in the bottom right hand corner of the Circus Hostel. The Temporäre Kunstbox is now a home to Nina Stähli, an artist originally from Switzerland and now based in Berlin.

We have known Nina for a long time…her works have already appeared in the Circus Hostel and also in the Fabisch restaurant at the Circus Hotel. As she is someone that we like, both for her work and personally, she was the perfect choice to be the first host of the Temporäre Kunstbox. You can find out more information and see more examples of her work at: www.ninastaehli.ch

Blog Touching VideosTouching Heroes Animation Films

As part of the kunstbox, Nina is showing some of her animation films through into the reception area of the hostel. Here are her descriptions of the films you can see if you drop by the hostel:

die kunsttäter

touching heroes is an art installation made up of 101 figures which are standing in a museum. two of the figures – number 74 and 94 – are finding it increasingly boring to stand still and silent, day in and day out, in front of the art public……..as it becomes more unbearable they make a plan to escape. one night they make it happen via the underground sewers, and find themselves in a neighbourhood to the south of the city and the chance to begin a new life…..however they are surprised as they are brought back to the necessities and compulsions of their former life…………

die unterwanderung

two figures sneak out onto the stage of an opera house between the first and second acts of mozart’s magic flute. instead of continuing the opera, they begin to perform subversive fragments of different works of literature. the audience not only does not realise, but in fact are provoked into a state of exalted uproar. like an angel, a figure appears from above, attacking the audience for their susceptibility to manipulation…………………..

You can watch both these films, and some more from Nina, on the movies page of her website.
