Chess Street

More new toys at The Circus…this time a kind of over-sized (but not quite giant) outdoor, portable chess set! Now, if that’s not rocking nothing is. You can borrow it from the hostel in exchange for a deposit, and then impress passers-by with your mental agility and Grandmaster (Flash) style moves. Knights, Pawns, Rooks, Kings and Queens…they are yours to manipulate at will. And if you see our Minister for Fun Andrew Rowley hanging around outside (he’s the one in the picture below), make sure you challenge him to a game…

Carl Oskar

A huge welcome to the Circus family goes to Carl Oskar Hierath, who decided to join us now that the warmth of the summer is finally here. Congratulations of course to Mama Christina and Papa Tilman – who is one of the owners of The Circus – and we all can’t wait until Carl’s first visit to the hostel or the hotel…the first reception shift is scheduled for 2029…

Well done, all three of you!

(And Tilman – send us a picture – my artistic skills are not up to the job – love paul)

Karlshorst German Russian MuseumOn the 8th May 1945 the Second World War in Europe came to an end. Every year on this date, the German-Russian museum in Karlshorst (one of Jimbo’s favourites) holds a Museumsfest to mark the anniversary. This year there are concerts, guided tours (including one in English) of the “capitulation hall” where the German surrender was signed, talks, debates, live music, film screenings, food and drink from Germany and Russia and the appropriately named Roter Oktober beer. If should be a very interesting day, and you can find more information (in German) on the Museumsfest page on the website.

ELMOTO

We have three new members of The Circus family…a trio of ELMOTO electric-drive bikes. Somewhere between a bicycle and a motorbike – it has a number plate and you need a driver’s licence to ride one – the ELMOTO looks pretty cool as well…judging by the reaction of passers-by when I was taking these pictures.

Guests of the hostel and the hotel can rent the electro-bikes by the hour or by the day…funky.
