When someone asks you about what to expect from a hostel, your first thoughts are probably about bunk beds, rows of showers and meeting backpackers from all over. A brewery is probably the last thing you’d think of. Which is why we are here to tell you about one. What’s a brewery got to do with hostels, you ask? What if we told you that if you come to stay with us, you’ll find that The Circus Microbrewery is just as important as maps and beds!

See, The Circus Hostel comes with a long history – over 20 years’ worth! Back in the day when we first started, before Instagram was even an inkling of an idea and craft was in no way related to the beverage industry, we had a vision. We will be a place that always gives you more. From hiring the best and friendliest staff to organizing tours you can’t find anywhere else – experience has been our middle name since day one!

Because The Circus is like a big family – we are many, we are loud and we love having fun together! Did you really think our tours are for guests only? Ha! The most epic one goes all the way back to 2013, when we went to Schultheiss Brewery and what came after can only be described as history. Our tour guide and master brewer, Heiko, shared a few too many with us, which only brought us closer. So later on, when our brilliant Hostel Manager Jim came up with the idea of opening a microbrewery, Heiko jumped on board immediately! We had the space, we got the equipment, all that was left was pick a name, make a logo and let the beer flow!

Today, we have 8 house brews on rotation (including Pils, IPA, Amber Lager, Dark Lager and more), a selection of Scottish whiskeys, signature cocktails and everything in-between. Add events like quiz nights, karaoke and live music Fridays and what you have is a full night out in one place!

Our little brewery just turned 5 and we thought it was time to take it out to meet the world. We decided the perfect opportunity for it is the Handgemacht Festival in Kulturbrauerai. We set up a stand, brought along the Pils and the Hefeweizen, threw in a couple bottles of Panther Milk because why not, and showed Berlin that we are more than a hostel – we are a hostel that brews!

If you’re curious to try out our brewing and mixing skills, you’ll find us on Rosenthalerplatz inside The Circus Hostel. And yes, we are open for everyone and anyone, so come have a drink, sing a song, enjoy the music and mingle with a healthy mixture of locals and travelers from all over the world, we’ll be waiting!
