The 13th edition of the Pictoplasma Festival takes place from May 10 – 14 at Babylon (Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz), ACUD MACHT NEU, Urban Spree, and a series of exhibitions throughout Berlin.

Pictoplasma Berlin is the International Conference and Festival of Contemporary Character Design and Art. It showcases the latest trends in character design and art and is held annually.

This year, the focus is on artists and designers exploring the role of character design within the aesthetic conventions of gaming, virtual, and augmented reality. The theme “Character Upload!”  reflects on an understanding of cultural production in the age of extreme viral circulation and “Internet Everywhere”.

The core of the festival is the conference, where producers and creators meet and exchange the latest trends and thoughts. It’s very interdisciplinary, so there will be artists, filmmakers, illustrators, and designers of all sorts. The fields they’re working in are very diverse as well: from animation and illustration to games, VR, urban designs, painting, installations and children’s books – which is reflected in the pictures below.

Apart from the conference, the festival is open to the public with screenings, exhibitions, performances, and parties. Don’t miss it!
