What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about a hotel? Beds that you never have to make? Or exceptional breakfast options with coffee you wouldn’t be able to recreate if your life depended on it? Well, at The Circus Hotel, we have all that, but that’s not why we’re asking! Apart from being in love with Berlin and showing you what it looks like through our eyes, we are crazy about another thing that makes time fly. Reading. Yes, we are book worms and proud of it, and if you ever stayed with us you might have noticed that an entire section of our lobby and lounge area is converted into a reading corner. And today, we are thrilled to announce another addition to The Circus Hotel library! Behold The Circus Anthology, a collection of selected writings on the topic of “The Circus” and a direct result of the competition behind Berlin Writing Prize 2019.
If you’re not familiar with the name, Berlin Writing Prize has actually been going on for quite a while. You might remember the introduction of the project, an interview with our hotel manager and member of the judging panel and that time we finally announced the winner. Her name is Sarah K. Perry and it made us so happy to be able to provide her with a quiet and peaceful retreat where she can let her creativity run wild and her writing take off. She spent the month of January as our guest of honor and a resident of one of The Circus Hotel Apartments. And as a thank you for a stay she truly enjoyed, Sarah left us a wonderful gift – a copy of her published novel, “Let Me Be Like Water”!
And as if that wasn’t enough, she left us a “thank you” note that had us all collectively tearing up.
A published author and a curious mind, she won the literary competition that aimed to play with the theme of “The Circus”. The project was once again run in a partnership with The Reader Berlin, KLAK Verlag, SAND Journal and many more, and we made sure to send Sarah back into the world with a proper send-off. Authors and passionate readers of Berlin (and beyond) gathered at The Circus Hotel to once again have the pleasure of hearing snippets of not only Sarah’s winning piece, but other shortlisted writers’ as well. It was a wonderful evening of sharing stories and toasts, making new friends and enjoying our love of great literature!
Uniting all the best stories of the competition, The Circus Anthology will be available for all guests of The Circus Hotel who are avid readers, and where other than inside our cozy little reading corner! So come on over and get your weekly reading in at The Circus, we can’t wait to share our love for books with you! You know where to find us…
